I ended the last report with the words "but you never know" and that's just how its panned out because this morning there was a big improvement in the fishing. Yesterday the "early birds" at the bridge pools had some great sport. And although things had tailed off a bit by mid-morning, the runs continued again today. They're still not big runs but there have been some cracking fish caught over the last thirty six hours or so. I bumped into Norman on the river earlier today and he had half a dozen good fish yesterday, including the five pounder below. Many thanks for the pic mate.
I was expecting another tough day and didn't get on the river til 8.00 am. But as I walked past the lodge, Bruce was already heading home for breakfast after an early start in the lower bridge.

Although he hadn't landed any, he told me he'd been busted off a couple of times and also indicated that some quality fish went through yesterday.

As I mentioned they're not big runs. Its more a case of small pods moving up... and they're not hanging about either. So you'll get 15 mins when its all on... followed by a quiet spell until the next group comes through.

All the fish I landed today were in great condition with a nice mix of fat, chrome coloured hens and stroppy males. These early jacks are great fun and will often put on exciting aerial displays with spectacular leaps while you're playing them.

The majority of anglers I saw were fishing globugs under the indicator. But all mine were caught on small bead head flies Czech nymphing again today.

I fished four different spots along the river between the Braids and Stag and had fish in all but one of them. So a bit of an improvement on recent weeks.

It was overcast with heavy showers for most of today and I'll be glad when my "best" wading jacket is repaired, because my spare is water-logged ...not water-proof !

Fortunately it looks a little better tomorrow with some sunshine in amongst any wet stuff.

The first runs are always the hardest to get. But now that the cork has popped it should be happy days again from now on.

Rain and showers until midweek, then dry with a drop in temperature until next weekend.

It should be all on guys

Have a great week

Mike
