Its always interesting reading visiting anglers impressions of New Zealand. For the last few years Tazzie angler Paul Anderson has been coming here for his summer fly fishing fix. This year he brought along a couple of mates, Brendan Turiff ... aka Beevor and Shaun Scarfe ... aka Scarfey. Tongariro river update.

A beautiful Autumn day in Turangi with temperatures reaching the low twenties by mid-morning. With little or no wind and not too many anglers on the river I can't think of a better place to be. Anglers are reporting a real mixture of fish and you never know what you'll encounter from one cast to the next. The best way to increase your chances is to keep on the move because its still early days and the distribution of trout seems to be very uneven. I didn't get on the river until after lunch and other than a couple of skinny hens I'd relocated three times before I found a few decent fish later ...

I don't miss much about the UK ... but one thing I do miss is the huge choice of fishing tackle available there. Trout fishing, sea fishing and coarse angling are all extremely popular pastimes in Britain and there is an endless supply of good quality equipment to cater for every branch of the sport.
